Unless the shells were painted red on the inside, they are probably the "phenolic" shells Pearl used at the time, which in my understanding are kind of a forerunner to Pearl's fiberglass shells of the 70s and early 80s. They were thicker shells and a maroon-red type of color. Jonniestix can shine more light on those than I can.

Nice looking drums. Did the snare fade to that "greenish" color, or is that just the picture, or was it not part of the original set?

I saw them in person about a year ago, then I saw these pics and wondered the same thing. You are right, they are phenolic. I'm gonna go take another look soon, as I'm am slightly interested too, but unless I move some kits, I don't have the cash.

bbk - That rack tom looks huge! At least a 14"er. Let me know if I was right after you see them again.

I emailed him for sizes, Purdie. With Christmas in full swing, I might get out there after the holiday. I'll keep you posted.

Sizes are 13 x 9 tom, 16 x 16 floor tom, 22 x 14 bass
