Pawn Shop Fiasco

I stopped by a local pawn shop and noticed a Zildjian 20" ride priced at $499! I asked one of the clerks if that was the right price, he said, yep. I told him I could buy a new one for $325 and that I'd never seen a cymbal like that sell for $500, even new. He's suppose to be a drummer and says, I've paid over $600 for a cymbal.

I know how these places work, they usually give you a third of what the item is worth and then sell for twice as much. Which means for them to try to get $500, they would had given the seller $200-250 and for them to give that much to the seller, the cymbal would had been initially worth $800-900.

This was a $300-350 at best, new. I had no interest in the cymbal, I was just trying to enlighten them, they didn't take it too well.

Was this a mom & pop type of pawn shop as opposed to a chain type store ?

I have done very well at the mom & pop type places.

This was a chain store and there is no way that was a $500 cymbal. It looked like a Zildjian 20" K Custom with no ink, probably from the 80's.

It's been a while since I been into one of those chain shops. I recall seeing a stencil kit from probably the mid to late 90's (CB?) which had been hand painted in a green Camo pattern. When I say hand painted I don't mean custom shop, I mean at home. A bargain at £400! NOT!

I've found most pawn shop owners to be egotistical a-holes who think everything they have is priceless...
