Oyster Black Wrap

Loading...

Hey everyone!

I'm wondering if anyone has compared the different suppliers' versions of 60's OBP wrap. I keep hearing forum members saying that the Precision version is 'too blue'. Has anyone seen Jammin' Sam's version? Is there another source other than these two that I should consider? I have samples from Precision and Sam's on the way.

They are all too blue. I have sheets from both Sam and Precision and they are identical. I'm pretty sure they get their material from the same supplier.

I quit using the wrap because it's so "blue" and I keep calling Precision to see when they will get a new batch of wrap in so I can see what it looks like. Every batch of oyster wrap is different than the other and my hopes are they darken the colors next time. But they buy in large quantities and don't get more until the last batch is depleted. I'm still waiting a year later for that new batch to be ordered!

That's really disappointing news. I suppose that what's worse is that when a new batch does come along, there's no guarantee that it will be any better, and it could actually be worse! One would think that in todays world of precise knock-offs, they could figure this one out. Or even figure out bringing back vintage oyster blue pearl for that matter! Clapping Happy2

I will say that the first time I got BOP wrap from Precision it was a very good "batch"...much darker and tighter lines. For sure they will never make a wrap that will match 60's drums but at least that first batch looked great as a full set, not so much anymore. I'll post some pics of the wrap that was good and some of the bluer not so good. The bluer wrap probably should be sold as oyster blue, not oyster black. Oh well...I guess!

waaaaaaaayyy too much blue. This is where I quit using it except for the Junior kits. It works okay for them, in my opinion as they sell for much less and I don't feel quilty for such a blue version of black oyster.

WOW! What an eye opener when you see them side by side like that. Huge difference there. If and when you see some acceptable stock, can you let the rest of us know, please? I think that was enough to make me put that project on hold for now.
