One foot or two ??

Hey all..Was just scouring Youtube for vintage Deep Purple footage and have been enjoying them for the past couple of hrs or so.. Came across a song of theirs that i never really heard before, or at least not in my recollection of it, called Fireball..The performance is obviously prerecorded, except for Gillan's vocals, but i noticed something quite startling but awesome at the same time.. It seems as if Paice's foot work is that of two, playing a double bass pattern at certain times in the song, and i've only known of Paice playing one bass drum, but having tremendous foot work..

The 16th note pattern sounds like it's being done with two feet than just a single foot..Am i missing something, because if that is just one foot, John Bonham just lost the title for the single fastest right foot in hard rock history.. Lol.. Whatever the case, both Paice and Bonham are great. Btw, check out the Premier he's playing ! I know he endorsed Ludwig at this time and that it was probably a rental kit for the show, but still a rare sight ;)

Can't help with your question but great vid!!!

Serious flashbacks of bouncing about and bad clothes. Glad those days have passed :-)

Thanks,

Creighton

Nothing special here but I like them.

Can't recall how the song went but the album cover was really cool. Great artwork.

Paice used two kicks to record the song, he recalls it being one of Keith Moon's bass drums.Seems at one point roadies would haul out an extra kick for Fireball only.

A-ha ! That's exactly what i thought.. I knew he was capable of a constant 16th pattern with one foot, but at a slower tempo, and even i could that, but i knew he couldn't have done it at the tempo that Fireball is written in..

Thanks for the info.. I also had no clue that one of them was Moon's bass drums.. That's hilarious, seeing as how he couldn't play a double kick ;)
