Old Ludwig Drums Offered to Me. What to do? Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Loading...

Hi. I am a new member to this forum and want to say Hi and I have some questions that I hope to get answered. I played guitar in a band in the early 70's and the drummer passed away late 2012. His Widow offered to sell me his old Ludwig drums which is not a complete set by any means. Just some shells and misc. hardware. She was asking $200-$300 for (1) kick drum, (1) floor and (2) toms. If I could buy some NOS parts and piece this kit back together at a reasonable price, I would love to have my old drummers drums grooving once again. I believe this is a 60's Super Classic set with a a Black Diamond Pearl finish.

Are these old Ludwig drum shells and misc. H/W worth $200/$300?

Is there a website where a person can buy old vintage Ludwig H/W so that this kit might be restored and see the light/sound of day?

If I did not want to offer her the ~$300, what should she ask the local music stores for them to buy them from her?

Below is a link to some pics of the drums.

Any help with the above questions would be much appreciated.

Regards

Cyberbarter,

Welcome to the forum and I am sorry for the loss of your friend.

There will be other guys that will help answer these questions better than I, but I would say these drums are certainly worth $300. They need a good deal of elbow grease but are worth the effort. There are a ton of threads on this site detailing how to bring these back to life. This site and eBay are great resources for the parts you need.

If you are up for the task then I would suggest snagging and saving these.

First, sorry for the loss of your friend.

I think you're looking at a 1967 Super Classic kit with a tom that's been added later. AWESOME drums! You're buddy had good taste.

With a little bit of elbow grease, these could be worth anywhere between $800-$1000. There are a couple add ons/extra holes and some rusty parts, etc. which deducts from the "collectors" value, but I don't think you should be so worried about that.

I don't know what the situation is, obviously. But if I were in your shoes and could afford it, I'd offer the old gal something closer to what they're worth as is. Sounds like she might just want you to have them, which is a great thing too. But it might make you feel better letting her know what they're worth first.

Hope this works out for you. If you got the bread, you won't regret having these.

Best,

Aaron
