i ran across a neat old/vintage evans head for a 20" bass drum. it reads econo sound by evans usa. do any of you remember these heads? just wondering when it would have been made. haven't been able to track down any info on it. think it would be a batter or reso head,or either? thanks...

Hi Mike, If i recall right these heads are from the 70's.I think you could use this head either way top or bottom.I also seem to recall the Zicko's set's in the 70's had these head's on them when the set's were new....Mikey

Hi Mike,

While I haven't personally seen this style of Evans head, it sure reminds me of Remo's line of Sound Master heads that were used on many import drums of the 60's and 70's. I've got one in front of me right now and the hoop appears to be some type of resin or epoxy. It was just a way to keep costs down instead of using metal hoops. If you could save a little on each head, that savings would really add up on thousands of heads! Anyway, that's just my take on this.

Good call Mark. I was thinking the same thing, but you beat me to it.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....
