I don't own it, not going to bid on it, but wow... this really is rare, especially in this condition. I've pulled the pictures off of eBay.

More pics and description...

From eBay:

'Up for sale is a Ludwig Standard drum set from the 1968 in an original ruby red strata wrap. The drum set is wrapped inside AND out! Crazy cool looking. This drum set is in absolute MINT condition. Seriously, barely any signs of use and everything but the heads are original. The sizes are 14x22 bass drum, 5x12, 5x13, 5.5x8, 11x16 toms, and a 5x14 matching snare drum. All mounts, hoops, and hardware are original as well. Wrap is in great shape, we have found no cosmetic or structural issues. Kit looks great, sounds great, is SUPER unique, and is ready to be rocked!'

Yeah it is... It might be my post you saw on Facebook... I kind of slathered this all over the internet in hopes a collector will snag it.

I have never seen one is this condition. Normally you see 'em thrashed.

Anyhoo... not doing an ad or promoting this for personal gain, just for info to the folks...

Just because something is rare doesn't make it desirable. I'd never play those things, especially at a gig. Love Standards, love the wrap, just not attractive at all :)

Wow ! That is collectors grade., or even museum piece, just for the sheer rarity..

This looks like it might be a Standard version of the "nesting kit", but i haven't seen one in any catalogs from vintage drum guide.com website.. Super cool..I'd definitely use it as pb /coffee house gig kit, or practice, or even turn into a a triggered electronic kit with mesh heads !

Thanks Pops... I guess I should have put the catalog link in myself... many folks will not have heard of these. Let alone know what a complete kit looks like.

That's what makes this particular example rare - some of you might remember my rants on calling something 'rare' as well. But this really is.

What makes it rare is the condition and that it's complete. Almost all the S-340's you see are either missing drums or in poor condition.

Like I said earlier, this isn't my kit, I'm not promoting it and gain nothing from it's sale.

I had emailed the seller to let them know it was the S-340 and provided them with the link to vintagedrumguide. They were very appreciative!
