And that is my point... Like the Bunny said, it's been hot rod'ed. The problem with this is that those Combo kits are really scarce, if not rare. They were made one sided (concert toms) for a reason, Ludwig was attempting to 1: Use up a pile of Vistalite shells they had lying about, and 2: Make the kit so it would stack, for ease of transport. (well that's what I've read anyway...)
They didn't sell. Nobody wanted them. I've seen some of these (pictures, not in person) that were wrapped, chromed... whatever they could to unload 'em.
IMHO: Changing the plastic lugs out to make the kits playable is one thing. I probably would have done that since they are known to crack. But, I would have saved 'em to pass along.
I have an LA Camco kit. On the rare occasions I take it out to play, in gigs or just here at home, I NEVER use the bass mounted center post. It's really kinda cruddy. I normally only play one up anyway, so I got a suspension mount for the 14" rack tom. It's completely reversible. I didn't even take the original mount off, just hid it under the suspension mount. To me, that's how you can 'hot rod' a kit, make it better than it was designed, and yet when the time comes, pass along an as original kit as possible.
What's been done to this Combo kit makes it clown-ish. I mean the guy didn't even use the same lugs...
