OK so not vintage but.....

Have any of you checked out the new PDP Concept Classic Wood Hoop sets? I think they look rather cool with the throwback wood hoops. Apparently they're producing some nice vintagey tones and for under a grand. Standard size Toms, Bass drums are 14" deep and go 22" up to 26". Not bad for a gigging kit. Any thoughts?

I think this link will work.

It's a great idea, although I would need to hear them in-person. If they still have that 'boingy' modern sound then, no cigar.

Nice looking kit.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Gotta love Dw innovation and the price point is spot on.

I think they look cool and I've had several modern kits that sounded great. I found if you use coated ambassadors on toms a coated powerstroke on the kick and of course tuning, you can get a more vintage sound out of modern drums. I've had a few Austin made Fibes kits that sounded as good as any kit I've owned.

That being said, the pdp line will never achieve the vibe of a vintage kit, not to mention the re-sale value. I can find a nice vintage kit for under a grand and not lose money on depreciation.
