Non-Like Snare Butts and I Cannot Lie ! You Ludwig Drummers Can't Deny !

Loading...

I am restoring some neglected Ludwig Classic snares and this one is different than a P-34 butt, and is incompatible with a L1110 or a L1108 snare assembly. (See photos)

Is this an obsolete type Ludwig snare butt?

What's the P number for this ?

Will a P-34 be a drop in replacement (after drilling third hole) ??

Does Ludwig still offer a replacement snare assembly to fit this butt, or do I have to upgrade to P-34 + L1110 or L1108 ?

Thanks !

Is this the one you need? My parts catalog shows it to be a P-33.

I'm not sure what the difference is between a P-33 and a P-34, but yours looks like it will accept a L 1110 or L1108

I have seen the replacement snares offered for sale at some of the larger/well known music retailers.

Looking through the early Ludwig catalogs the only butt offered is the "P-32 for all strainers"

In the '71 catalog in the marching drum section there is mention of the "chrome plated P-33 extended snare butt, with die cast housing, permits individual adjustment of all snare strands."

In '73 we get to see an image of it in the catalog: Image #1

By 1980 it was replaced by the P-34: Image #2

So I guess you could say the P-33 was the first casting for the extended snares, to be replaced by the P-34 with the third hole for some additional stability with the 3rd fastener: Image #3

Did the two lateral holes line up with your new P-34?

YES !

New butt has arrived, now all I have to do is drill the third hole.

Nice that I have all the right hardware, too by going with a new one.

Keep that great Ludwig feeling with Genuine Ludwig Parts !Cool Dude

Anybody need a P-33 ?

I was thinking maybe someone might be wanting to do a restoration and might not want to drill any new holes.

I don't have that option, the p-34 needs all three attachment points.
