No ID, 7 lug floor

Loading...

Hi all,

I've been watching this 7 lug floor tom for a while now.

It keeps me intrigued, but I cannot put a name on it.

The only pic for id'ing by the lugs is the one attached.

Any leads on the brand / era?

Cheers, Wouter

Those lugs look alot like early Premier, and also a lot like lugs found on an Australian drum company called Dandy - Drouyn. You can examples on this and the partnering sites.

Wouter - does it have an open bottom end? At first I thought it might be a tacked reso but there are no tacks. The drum has a real 1930's feel and look to it. Interesting drum. I wonder how easily a seven lug head tunes up without the advantage of direct opposition of the tension rods.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Drouyn used these lugs and also did 7-lugged floor toms.

Yeah, that would be a Drouyn for sure! I had an 18x18 Drouyn drum with NINE of those lugs either side, with actual 9 hole triple flange hoops.

Thanks guys.

Drouyn or Premier, time will tell.

I couldn't resist not pulling the trigger after your inputs.

So, let's see what it is.

Unfortunately, the seller is off for a ski holiday. So, it will take some weeks.

Keep you posted.

Dimensions are roughly 41cm diameter and 38 depth, according to the non-expert seller.

You prolly have but didn`t notice.

All SONOR floor toms since 70`s are nine lug.

7, that`s rare and unique to the builder.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Is it a Premier? =====> NO

Is it a Drouyn? =====> NO

It is....(drum roll please)........

An early 50s Olympic floor tom

- Ivory lacquered

- 16" in diameter (not sure yet if it is pre-international), 16" depth

- 7 lugs

- with 2 out of 3 floortom brackets (no legs)

- internal tone control

- some wear and tear, but nice sounding drum

Let's see if we get along together ;-)
