If I was one 10th as handy as some of you guys, this would already be on its way to me...... with just a few parts, this drum is clean, you could turn this into a $600-$700 drum with little effort and investment......

I have a Chicago Slingy single ply too. 1956-59. When I got it, it had been severely abused. Someone has written weird stuff inside the shell with a ballpoint, drilled extra holes, used washers and epoxy as filler and the finale - had even mounted the snares on the batter side. I plugged it, filled it, sanded it, painted the inside tan and wrapped it in glitter. It has a rapid strainer now. This drum has so much mojo; and sound; and is so much fun to play that I'd buy it and put a 70's strainer on it and just have fun in a different colour!

Trout, nice looking drum. You are right about the sound, they are amazing. YOurs might have had hole's filled in but bottom line is sound. Snare wires on the batter,,,funny! Love that red glass too!
