Newest Acquistion - 70`s Ludwig Mach 4 Thermglass Maple Kit

Hey all,

Here is the latest addition to the family...I haven`t had a chance to tear them down yet due to other projects in the works...

Sizes: 26x14 BD, 14x10 RT. 18x16 FT and a 5x14 Acro (Sorry, didn`t take pics of the Acro)...

The only issues I see so far is the Premier tom mounting system on BD, missing badge on BD and the Premier mounts on rack toms...I did remove a tom mount and Made in England is etched on the inside...

Someone wanted this kit to be a Mach 5 instead of a Mach 4...Five extra holes I think...Easy fix I believe...The previous owner removed the mufflers from the toms, but, luckily he kept them...

There was also a 15x12 Mach RT included, but is a different color...

Also included were some Zildjian Amir cymbals...20" ride, 14" hats, 18" Amir Impulse crash and a 8" Sabian B* Pro splash...I will post pics of the Amir cymbals in the vintage cymbal forum...

Please, I would like your opinions regarding this kit...Any info regarding this series is always welcomed as well...

Pictured here is the BD, 14x10 RT and the FT...

Cheers

I have black dots on my `71 Ludwig Classic kit...Not bad sounding at all...Would you recommend clear or coated Ambs? What would you recommend for the reso side?

Cheers

Nice set Rod...This is what i know about the Ludwig "Mach 4 and 5 sets .They are from the mid 70's If i recall right 1976 was the last year that they were made..The two sets in the catalog were the mach 4 that was a 22.13.16 and the mach 5 was a 12,13,16,22 both sets had a S.S. snare..On both of these sets you can order it with a 20" bass or a 24" bass..On the mach 5 set you could have had the mounted toms 13" and 14"...Do all the shells match 3ply with rings..I do know that you could have ordered a custom order set with the bigger bass drum 26" and or a 16x18 and a 18x20 floor toms...I have not seen a set with a 26" and a 15"and 18" toms...I talking about a 70's set not the new 1990 sets with these lugs..Mikey

Mikey,

All shells do match...They are 3 ply with re-rings...I forgot to mention that in my initial post...Blue/olive pointy badges...The original set came with 26BD, 14 RT, 18 FT...The 15 RT was added on later...The only extra holes are where the tom mounting system was installed on the BD and RT`s...

Thanks for the info gents...

Cheers
