This is the kit I've been talking about - a 1979 Ludwig Power Factory (model #2004 w/24" bass drum) in chrome over wood. I'm guessing it's really polished stainless steel... :)

It's catalog complete and original right down to the last washer. I've yet to find a pit, there's nary a scratch, and only one tiny dent. The toms were never nested, so there are no marks inside the shells.

The Supra is in NOS condition, it could have been manufactured yesterday.

The stands came housed in their original boxes and are likewise in amazing condition. This kit is as immaculate as it gets. Except for the snare batter, all heads are original with some stick marks, the only indication the drums had ever been played. The condition can be attributed to extreme pampering by the original owner, and the drums undoubtedly spent most of the last 34 years in cases.

The toms and kick have the dreaded riveted seam, but with a metal wrap, there's none of the common bubbling and lifting. The seams are flat, and look appropriate with the rivets.

I have some pretty clean kits in my collection, but these are straight from a time-capsule, and I will treat them accordingly.

I'm thinking Ludwig should commission Bermuda to start a West Coast Ludwig Museum. Those are swimming-pool-ready... Break out the camera!

Holy COW! (or should it be SSOW?). Only fitting that this gem found a home with a true concert tom connoisseur. I bet they even smell fresh.

And those cases! Geez, they look like they've never seen the back of a van. Would it be going too far to get cases for the cases just to keep them looking that pristine?

Just don't put them IN the pool like Green Glass Drum did with his Blaemire Concert Toms. DOH

That is an amazing set! Literally factory fresh.

I wonder if Ludwig or Gretsch have ever contacted any VDF members for information on certain drums.

The companies definitely know the aficionados in the vintage world. I'm a bit far down the list, but it's a safe bet that Bun E, Gary Asher and Mike Curotto are among Ludwig's top go-to guys.

Boy, this is amazing. Can we hear more about the story behind these drums please. I mean, who buys drums like this and just stores them for years and years?

Thank you!
