New (old) Rogers

Hi all,

Finally decided on one of the Rogers kits that a fellow in my area had for sale.

Went to see them on Saturday, and the Blue Onyx won out.

I'm told it's a '68, and pretty much all original. The wrap is in pristine condition, along with the lugs and hoops. Almost no visible pitting of any kind.

Bearing edges are great, and the kit really comes across as very new looking.

I'm curious about the serial numbers though.

The 13" rack tom has a Holiday Fullerton tag with number 25148. Tag has border around it. The interior is grey speckled.

The 16" floor tom has a Holiday Fullerton tag, with no border and a number of 11382. Again, grey speckled interior.

The 22" kick has a Dayton Holiday tag with border and a number of 92395.

The bass drum has obvioulsy been slightly modified in that it has a centre post swivo installed, but I think even with that, I have a pretty nice, almost original kit.

I picked up the kit for $1400 Canadian along with a COB Powertone snare which sounds phenominal. The snare has a Cleveland tag with number 2708.

Any help on the dating would really be appreciated.

Those look to be in excellent condition,I thought the fullerton tag would indicate 1969 thru 1971/72 ,dayton tag would indicate 1967 1968 generally.Another clue would be the collett and mounting arms,if they are the earlier machined ones I think the say rogers on them the later cast ones I don't think were,someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Very nice choice. I'm not really a Rogers guy, but if I was to get a Rogers kit, I'd go for one like that in that finish too! :D

Ah, who am I kidding, I used to stare endlessly at the 1970 Rogers catalog that my dad had when I was a kid dreaming of someday owning a Londoner kit....:p

I'm going to say that your toms are probably 1970. Kick is probably 1969, though Rogers used some old Dayton tags when they moved to Fullerton. Your Cleveland Powertone is a good bit earlier... appx 1962.
