I keep getting this on every page I go to:

"Our records indicate that you have never posted to our site before! Why not make your first post today by saying hello to our community in our Introductions forum."

I couldn't find the Introduction Forum so I'm saying hello here.

My name is Angel. I was born and raised in Washington DC. I played professionally for over 25 years. I could go on forever about the Music Business and the life I lived before I moved to Montana 8 years ago, but no need to bore everyone.

My favorite Drummers are Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, & John Bonham. Then after these 3, I would have a list to long to post.

I just purchased a DW Jazz Series Drum Kit. 16x18 Bass Drum, 8x12 Rack Tom w/Rail Mount, 14x14 Floor Tom. I added Istanbul AGOP Turk Series 13" Hi-Hat Cymbals and an 18" Flat Ride. I plan to add Istanbul AGOP Turk Series 19" Jazz Ride and a 20" or 22" China.

I will be using my Premier 314 Lokfast Flush Base Cymbal Stands, Camco Bass Drum Pedal, and the reason I joined the Forum is I would like to find either a Upper Tube Assembly for my Orange Hi-Hat or just buy an Orange Hi-Hat complete and use mine for parts.

I listened to Drums from all the Manufacturers and was using Gretsch as the standard bearer. It came down to the Gretsch USA Customs and the DW Jazz Series. I so wanted the Gretsch but I liked the way the DW's sounded. I'll probably end up buying a Gretsch Kit eventually just because it's a Gretsch.

I will certainly look forward to learning about Vintage Drums in General, looks like I have a lot of reading to do.

Welcome to the forum! The subtleties of vintage drums become obvious once you begin foolin' with them.

Better yet, just run away, screaming, with your arms waving wildly.......or you'll end up like us.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Just what I need, another addiction LoLoLoLo

I'm totally aware of the vintage drum sound. Back in the early 70's the Istanbul K's were the "IT" sound for jazz players. It was like they smuggled these cymbals into the country like drugs and you better have been part of the scene if you ever expected to put your hands on some. I had two of them (20") which I cracked but still keep in my attic. Every manufacturer has tried to copy that sound to no avail, hell even Istanbul themselves can't seem to do it.

I have a pretty good ear for sound and was lucky enough to find a Recording Studio 15 miles north of my town in NW Montana that rivals any of the Major Recording Studios I have ever been in. Even though he has all of the digital gear, he is set up for and encourages recording in analog on his Studer 827 Gold 2" 24 track tape machine.

I'm an analog guy and prefer to only listen to vinyl. I don't know where this guy got his money from (although I think it is family money), but he easily has 20 million invested in this studio. So I started checking out his equipment list for his listening room then stopped counting after $750,000.00.

I said to myself, I want to hear what a vinyl record sounds likes on a $750k analog stereo system. It's going to cost me $150.00 an hour, but this is a once in a lifetime chance to hear what these records really sound like. A quick example, he's running $30k Spiral Groove SG 1.1 and SG2 Turntables with $5k cartridges and two VTL Siegfried II tube power amplifiers at $115k each. Hell, just the power conditioners he plugs this stuff into are over $20k. I told him to set me up a time slot after the 2nd week of November. Here's a pic of the listening room and if he rolls back the curtains I'll have a direct view of the Rocky Mountains.
