Hi Lynn,To help Drummergirl in her search..Slingerland didn't put badges on the toms till LATE 1966, not 1963....

You are correct! I got that confused with the year they started using maple interiors...had been discussing that with someone earlier. Thanks for keeping me straight. Yes Sir

Lynn

I'm no guru, just a vintage drum junkie!

From 25DrummerGirl

We went back but the were sold. The rest of the set was painted white on the inside and only the bass drum had a badge. It looked like a lot of work but after we found out how easy the snare cleaned up, we wish we would have got the whole set, especially since it was only $25, but at least we saved the snare drum!Last week I found a Ludwig Rocker set (I think) online. My mom says I can only have one set, so I have to get rid of this one, but is really cool. The tom drums are super small, plus it is white!

Welcome to this wonderful online community. I agree stick with the Vistalites. You'll find it very hard have only one kit, if you hang around here too long. :) I don't play drums, but my son does, and we have 3 kits and 5 snares in our house.

It's great that you are in Middle School band. Stick with it. If you have the opportunity, join HS marching band. My son loves it. He's a freshman this year and was in marching band last year and this past fall. Now he's in concert band, percussion ensemble and jazz band. He started marching band playing cymbals as an 8th grader and moved up to top end bass drum out of a line of four bass drums. He plays kit in jazz band too.

If you love to play and want to improve, taking advantage of any and all opportunities to play will help you excel. It's amazing how much my son has improved in just one year.

As far as vintage drums, just browse through the Vintage Image Gallery for inspiration. Your Vistalite kit would fit right in. When you get to the point where you want more drums, keep your eyes open for yard sales in the spring/summer/fall. I feel you can never have enough snare drums. Each one can have a unique sound and they are more than instruments, they can be art. Plus they are easier to manage than a full kit.

Good luck,

-Tim

No! I'm keeping my Vistalites. I love them. I traded some stuff for the rockers. They have the black and white badges, but the floor tom doesn't have a number on it. The bass drum is 22", the floor tom is 16". The drums mounted on the bass drum and 12" and 10". I thought hat was cool. It's not nearly as big as my Vistalite set. I have 8 drums on that. I thought this was a good trade so I got it.

It -is- a good trade! Those Rockers used the same shells as the top of the line kits. The only difference was the hardware they used on the kit. Otherwise excellent sounding drums.

You did good! Enjoy them and don't forget to post some pictures of them when you get them.

John

Too many great drums to list here!
