New Gretsch SSB purchase

I just bought this, mainly because nobody else did. That sounds crazy as everything in the photos was around $550US and they look like a set of 602 SE hats and a couple of Zildjian cymbals in the mix. Anyway, what have I bought? I'm not at all familiar with Gretsch apart from a square badge snare I cleaned up a while back. Obviously there are missing hoops, Ts and claws but does it look complete otherwise? Am I right in guessing early 70s?

It may be a while before i get my hands on them as they are at the other end of the country. I'm still amazed that someone at that end of the nation didn't snap them up. Remember, this is New Zealand where vintage kits usually sell at a premium. I guess it doesn't have a cool 60s wrap.

Sorry for the bad photos, it's all i have at this stage. I only know the rack tom sizes are 13" and 14" according to the seller.

Thanks for that. I had read a few posts about the monster mount recently, before I was even looking at this kit. Seems folks are divided when it comes to this mount.

I have found most of the criticism is from copy cats just stating they think it looks peralish most have not owned this year of gretsch drums or this mount it is super solid. you'll love it.

18" floor tom there? I had a drumming friend who owned a Slingerland chrome over wood kit from the 70's. 24 bass, 13 and 14 toms and a 16 floor tom. He had a chance to buy a matching 18" Gretsch floor tom and grabbed it. Never used the Slingerland floor after that. Seems odd, but must have been something to it.

Yes, I believe so Glenn, although I suspect they may be modern. A friend of mine has them now so hopefully I can get some better photos soon. Came with everything in the photos plus a load of sticks and percussion stuff. The seller says she bought the kit for her husband as a wedding present in 1979

Dan - I don't know the size of the FT yet but i was thinking maybe 18" too.
