Go with a vintage Ludwig Supraphonic over a new one if given a choice. Almost all new drums marketed today consist of cheap (a term I use to denote quality - not price) Chinese components exported to the West, assembled by the lowest-paid laborers to be found anywhere on the planet, and then mass marketed by a tiny cadre of "bottom line" business/marketing majors. Yes, they look like drums, sound like drums, and are relatively inexpensive. But they depreciate in market value even faster than you can click "LIKE" on Ludwig's Facebook page.

In comparison, the vintage Ludwig Supraphonic sounds and performs better because it's the product of a company formerly owned by an American family of devoted drummer-craftsmen honoring and maintaining a long tradition. Pay the extra costs if necessary and acquire a great musical instrument.

I agree with VTM the '92 is drier..

My '77 is one that hasn't been prone to pitting as well as yours Bigdrummie, and I'm doubting I'd let her go.......

You'll wait a heckuva lot longer to replace you vintage snare with another than you will to pick up a new one.,,,IMHO....:)

The good thing about this tough decision is you'll have a great sounding drum either way !!!

I would recommend searching e-bay's sold listings to get a feel for the current market value of these drums. A very helpful tool, IMO.

I currently play a 5" x 14".

I have made the decision to keep it.

And now am searching for a 70's B/O in great shape.

I would like to buy one in NY State so that I could look at it b/4 I buy it.

Think I'll have any luck with this?
