Need Help Identifying This Ludwig Kit

Loading...

Hi guys, can anyone with experience in Ludwig drums tell me what kit this is from the photos I’ve attached? The owner says it’s from ’67, but what doesn’t add up for me are the tom mounts—there’s a double system—and the wrap looks a bit too glossy. What do you think? Could it be some kind of reissue? It’s currently in Europe, but according to the seller it was bought in California. Thank you in advance.

Do you know what the shell make up is? That will give you a better indication of the year.

I'd say it's an old Set 67 on down. The Rail tom mount is still there. The tom post was added later.  The Snare drum looks like a Rogers.

  yea looks 60s to me

-edit- bass drums spurs- look 70s so take  a grain of salt Add pics of bass drum spurs to the list. See if replaced or original

The wrap is the later "bowling ball" black oyster pearl which came out at the very end of the 60s. The Blue Olive badge came out in '69 so since this set has keystones, I would say it's a late '68 or early '69. It has the later style ratched on the rail mount and the curved spurs which also indicate late '68 or early '69.

Ludwig being Ludwig, sometimes minor details like badges didn't change all at once, so you might be looking at '70 as well.

The snare stand, hi hat stand, and the left cymbal stand are original Ludwig lightweight stands as is the bass drum mounted cymbal arm.

Looks like a Rogers Dynasonic snare and some A Zildjian cymbals.

Not sure on the throne, looks familiar. Maybe Slingerland.

The other cymbal stand is a much later Ludwig stand.

Not sure what the tom on the floor with the maracas on it is. Probably not original to the set.

The double tom mount is a later addition.

So the shells will be Three Ply, mahogany - poplar - Maple. Could be painted white inside or varnished maple.

Looks like a nice, unmolested set, other than the added double tom mount.
