need help identifying these toms

Loading...

Sorry, i'm new to the forum...

A while ago I picked up a floor tom and mounted tom at garage sale for $5, they were ugly as hell but for $5 I went ahead and picked 'em up. Never did anything with them. I was bored and got to looking at them and inside they are marked J.M.R 2-18-42 St. Jo. MS. in pencil. On the floor tom the thumb screws for the legs are stamped "rogers". All of the hardware appears to be Rogers "bread and butters", copper on brass. The serial number and badge are missing. I pulled off the mounted tom mount and below it was a purple mother of pearl. I got to pulling some of the paint off and I believe from searching here that these are "purple diamond pearl".

i've been searching all over trying to find anything that matches what model, year, or anything but have had no luck.

Thanks

Congrats on a fine score! If they are Rogers and were found with those flat top lugs the interiors should be flat black or grey and originaly sported an eagle badge as shown below. I assume it is a 16" floor tom? I'd like to see the shell interiors to be sure they are Rogers purple diamond. I collect that color. I have 2 3pc bass/tom tom/ snare pdp sets that need a floor tom. I wrote an article for the Not So Modern Drummer on that color many years ago. Email me direct and I will send you a scan of it. fltgrycleav@yahoo They are from around 1958. Peace, Gary

Thanks, it's been impossible finding anything out about these!

Yeah, it's a 16 floor and 13 mounted. Here's some more pics of the interiors of both of them. The interiors are a flat black.

Both drums have the same inscription on the inside. 8 lug hoops. and the mounted one has that weird mounted tom plate thing.

There are currently 4 layers of paint ( white, blue, white, black ) , on the exterior, which are all latex based and i've been able to apply a little heat with blow dryer and peel it off pretty easily on the mounted tom.

GaryN,Hit it on the head by the photos you posted they are Rogers drums why in the photos of the hardwear the lug is a B&B lug,the mount on the left is a M.I.J one,the tom mount piece is a home made one.The photos of the inside of the shells tells me Rogers also...Mikey

Thanks! I'm not a drummer really, i've got a few kits but don't really play much.

i'm assuming it's going to be pretty hard to get the matching kick or snare for these. Are they worth fixing up / restoring ( sound wise ) or would I be better off selling them off?

I think you should sell them to Gary since you don't play much, also Gary collects and needs this color floortom. A win win I think.
