Welcome to the forum ! You'll find this place very helpful in regards to all things vintage drums..Now, onto your snare drum. I could be wrong, but i don't think that butt plate is original.. It looks like later 50's or 60's to me, and not indicative to that era.. It's also installed upside down. There are other forum members much more knowledgeable who can tell you what this snare drum is in more detail..cheers,Rob
I'm no expert in this, but I agree. The butt plate is a precision machined piece on what otherwise is a drum with a very unsophisticated build. It's so rough looking,it almost looks homemade. It's probably much older than the butt plate. I know that Gold Crown made banjo heads. I guess it they may have made drum heads as well. The heads may or may not be as old as the drum. The company's calf banjo heads were apparently still available in the '50s to '60s, and perhaps later, so I suppose these heads could be as recent as that.
