Hi all,I want to hot rod one of my snares to end up something like this,

I am wanting the throw arm to be above the top rim so I can engage/disengage with a stick rather than my fingers while playing, the drums I am considering are a 5 1/2 by 14 or a 6 3/4 by 14,I just have no Idea how much wiggle room I have as far as how High up on the drum I can place it and it be functional.Any advice appreciated.

Biggest issue with the height is if it hits the top snare rim. That particular strainer was meant to be higher up with no issues. I know Gibraltar re makes those. Really each strainer will be different. So I'd make a list of ones such as that Slingerland ( or Sling clone ) that you know go above the batter rim without any interaction between the rim and strainer.

I have one of these. Not the nices working strainer I know, defenitley needs lubing before using.

My guess is it would work.

There may be a risk of the distance from lever to shell is a bit to small and you will need to put washers between attchmentpoint and shell to place the throw a bit firther from the shell.

Thanks for the replies,I had not even thought of these problems/work arounds.

I remember seeing drummers use snare throws like these in the Dance/Variety bands I saw as a kid in the early seventies,I remember playing one when I first started playing.
