You have it backwards. Imagine that mount on the other side of the bass drum. Take that spur "leg" out and insert it from the other side of the hole where it slides in. See how mine is. IF you cant get the Spur's "legs" out, take the whole mount off and put it on the other side of your drum. I do see what your saying about the mount angle. It should be angled down more. You might have to lose one screw to angle it down. lose the one with the nut on it and find a allen wrench that fits the middle screw. Loosen it and angle that mount down then tighten it back up.

From Batterhead

My set is a '48-'52 WFL, the spur mounts are not tilted at all, just at the wrong end of the bass drum...lol. (Don't ask, we've discussed this before on this forum....it's still a mystery). Seems WFL/Ludwig did alot of strange things.

I'm with Gilnar on this one...I'm gonna say yours was custom drilled for a lefty (or backwards) at a later time. The reason I say this is because those spurs that are on your kit (same as on my '58) didn't come out until 1955...so someone drilled them.

here is a close-up of the left hand side, allen screw visible. It acts as a stop mechanism,so the leg can roll out only so far.I hope this helps.

Hang on let me try to clarify something

"Spur" = the pointy "wingull" rod that actually suspends the drum slightly off the ground

"Mount" = the metal clamp-thing that attaches to the drum shell itself.

I think i see what you mean now about the "allen screw" part. Its on the *mount* but it only controls the angle of the *spur*

Im not so concerned about the angle of the spur - im concerned about the angle of the mount! Is there a way to adjust the angle of the mount?
