I'm planning to make my first vintage drum set purchase, and have been relentlessly searching ebay and assorted drum forums for a kit under a g and think I may be onto something.
the ad in question advertises "1971 super classic 3 ply" ludwigs.
My concerns are:
1.pearl style tom mount/hole created by it. I have the ability to plug the hole, but im wondering how much it affects the sound with and/or without the plug.
2. the crack, also located on the tom. I cant tell if the second picture is showing that the crack goes the entire way through the shell or not (opinions?). Again, repair ability is not an issue, just how the damage affects the sound pre and post fixing.
With these problems, and given the history of the kit itself, is $800 appropriate?
Also, is there anything else I should open my eyes to?
Resale/vintage preservation are of no concern to me, I just want to make sure that tom can still sing.
Opinions are encouraged. Thanks!
