(That is the only date stamp I could find, and I can't tell if it says 1966 or 1968, but I am leaning toward 1968)

(The only slight lifting of the wrap. The two older drums have very tight seams.)

that seem lifting is an easy fix! the bass and mounted tom are 67 and the floor tom is 69-70, does it look like the white paint has been removed or is there just patches of light white paint on the interior of the floor tom! that is if i read the date chart correctly!

The stamp date is 1966 -not '68. By November of '68, you would have seen a clear maple interior like with your later model floor tom.

nice drums. dont wanna be a debbie downer but.... i suggest that you take one of those mij lugs off your rack tom. it looks as if they put extra holes in that shell. or at least theymade the holes bigger to fit those lugs. i say this because it looks as if the washers from the new lugs are offset from the original impressions of the washers. not a horrible thing for what you paid by any means. but just so you know they may not be on the level.

Nice drums!

Great find........I love Gold Sparkle..

PrecisionDrum has the Gold Sparkle wrap with the Hexagon flakes - like your ride tom & BD have.

For under $100 you could wrap your floor tom & it would fit more with the others maybe. If you think it's been re-wrapped already you have nothing to lose & everything to gain.

Just a though.

Great kit,esp for the money,First tune them up and see if you like them, they will definitely sound different than your other two kits,if you decide to keep or sell, check to see if mini classic lugs fit and work in place of the mij's,even if they are loosy goosy you can find an inexpensive way to make them work,If you take your time you should be able to get them back to spec and they will still be worth more than you paid even as a players kit.If the 16 is original you should be able to sell it to help finance a correct era 16 and 13.

Well yesterday I got some new heads for them and tuned them up and did a rehearsal with them and they sound terrific. Warm and juicy just like they should, and the kick is a cannon! My Pork Pie BOB sounds shrill in comparison, maybe now I need a maple snare even though I've always been a metal snare guy.

Here they are in action (crappy phone pic)

So I guess this will be a long term project because they sound fine as they are and look pretty good too. I've got a couple guitars to build before I take on another project anyway.

The good thing is, I was planning on shelling out about $2000 for a new set of Maple Classics in champagne sparkle in a couple months, but that itch has been scratched for the time being, and for 1/20th the cost!

Nice! Yeah your bottom lugs on the rack tom are Pearl, or generic, it would be cool to replace them with Ludwig lugs, but otherwise they look great. For $100 I would certainly just play them like they are! The date stamp has to be '66, like he said by late 68 they are clear interiors. BTW The floor tom looks original. The interior doesn't look painted but rather it looks like there is some nesting wear or scratches that make it appear to have some white, it is just where the clearcoat scratched through to the wood. Great you gave this cool set a home, they look great like that to me, play 'em like you mean it!
