A couple of years ago I saw a Craigslist ad with no pictures for an old drum set located about 50 miles from where I live. I phoned the seller. He said that the drums were a brand that he never heard of--Slingerland. "What color are they", I asked? He said that they were striped like the American flag, but real dirty. I told him that they should be considered as sold to me for the $200 he wanted, and I'd be there in an hour. Much to my pleasant surprise, they turned out to be a 100% complete drum set with 12, 14, 20 drums along with two beat to snot Chrome snares--one Slingy with a zoomatic, and the other some extremely heavy incomplete 10 lugger that is maybe Tama. The drums were, indeed, dirty. The white sparkle bands of wrap had delaminated, and were beyond salvaging. The red and blue glass glitter bands of wrap were nearly pristine under the grime. When I retired as a manufacturer's rep, one of my best and favorite customers gave me a gift of a rehabbed little 4x13 Radio King snare that is a gorgeous player's drum in a more modern WMP. I thought for maybe a nano second about what I was going to do with the bad wrap sections of the drums. I removed the damaged white wrap, and replaced it in matching WMP. I also have a blue glass glitter Rogers Eagle Badge Luxor snare and a student Radio King in red glass glitter plus a blue sparkle Ludwig canister throne. The serial numbers and interior paint in the shells date the American flag drums as Niles made some time from the mid 60-'s to 1970 because of the silver/black Nies badges and chocolate milk paint, The red glass glitter snare dates as a black/gold Niles drum with chocolate milk interior--same time period but a bit older. Here are a few pictures to show a tom as found and same tom rehabbed with the WMP snare and the set with the red snare and throne. I love these little boogers that sound so huge.

Very nice, those are looking good to me.
I think that is the first full kit "semi rewrap" I have ever seen.

Very nice! A 12, 14, 20 kit for $200! What a steal...I mean...deal! ;) Good job re-wrapping one section. That had to have been a rather complex undertaking.
Very sweet Radio King snare also! Shame it's not an original wrap, but hey, way cool!

Those are beautiful! The WMP wrap looks really nice in there. I like it better than the original white glitter. Tasty snares too. Excellent job.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Thanks, all. As I said, I love this little drum set. The cosmetic repair was the easliet one I've ever done. I removed the damaged white wrap, measured it. Precision sent me strips of the WMP cut to size and matching bass drum hoop inlay strips for the empty inlay channel. I researched the hoop color(s) before sanding and repainting them. Originally, they were painted blue on one side of the inlay of chrome, and red on the other side of the chrome inlay. Such detail work is way beyond my heavy-handed abilities. So, I opted to do the WMP inlay with the hoop painted a shiny medium blue.
Masterful job amigo. Hooray for the red, white and blue!

Nice to see a Slingerland set adorned with the flag of Iceland!
