My new 1969 Ludwigs: Questions?

Loading...

I just reluctantly sold my 1981 Tama Mahogany Superstars to buy a great 1969 Ludwig Super Classic, 13/16/22. All drums stamped March 1969. They're in great shape and sound fantastic! My question is: Did they come with a bass drum shell mounted cymbal holder with the double tom set-up? I suspect mine was installed by a previous owner. Also, would my drums be considered a Hollywood model since it has the dual tom holder and not the rail consolette? Thanks everyone!

So a catalog super classic would have the rail mount and not the dual tom mount. Are there any extra holes in the bass drum? If not then I suspect the cymbal holder was added on after the fact.

For many we avoid drums with extra holes or modifications. Makes it easy to sell the drums down the road. You might find a regular 22x14 bass drum sell setup for a rail if it bothered you that much.

All that said if you like them and are happy then they are perfect!

Hope that helps.

www.vintagedrumguide.com was a great resource for me early on until I knew all the catalog setups.

No extra holes, so what I suspected is right, the cymbal holder was added later. Other than that, its perfect. I plan on keeping these indefinitely, so Im ok with it.

I am at work and can't see the pics but one way to tell which true configuration you have is the badge placement on the 13" tom. if you are looking at the set straight on, a 13" tom from a super classic set will have the tom on the right and the badge will be able to be seen. If the set is a Hollywood the 13" tom will be on the left and the badge will be able to be seen.

My 1969 Mod Orange set is dated March 26th 1969. What is your set dated?

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
