hey guys, thanks for the good words. yes they did turn out very nice. worked them babies til my fingers locked up. i was about to give up on them but just pulled up my skirt and gave'er hell. that 12 incher really gave me fits, if you can see them up close, you can still see some scuffles that are permanent. thats ok tho coz i look at it as character to the drums. cant have a 50 yr old set of drums without some marks on them, just doesn't seem right.

i am very proud to own this kit. i love them, they are just as important to me as my aunties camcos and my daddys ibanez is. they make me feel good and kinda important.

as far as sound....with the right heads, they will sound awesome. they sound ok now but them heads just aint the ones. which brings me to.....the sizes are 12, 13, 16 n 22. and john.....i dont know what to say. dude you have done so many nice things for me, i dont know what i've ever done to deserve your kindness, but i am very thankful for it, makes my heart feel warm. as far as that goes ALL you guys are pretty special to me. thanks for being my friends. ok enuf mooshie stuff, lets get back to them beautiful red sparkle ludwigs. aint they pretty? ok so what heads would you suggest for the bass drum? i plan to use the acro john v sent me and my speedking (also from j.v.) and am buying some vintage atles stands from manny for my luddys oh and the vintage atles hihat stand. so will post more photos once i get the kit all set up together, then maybe even a sound file to really show them off.

again thanks for all your comments and advice. appreciate all of it. now go make some noise boyz. lol.

From Purdie Shuffle

Mick - it 'looks like' 12", 13". I want to send her some coated heads for all three toms and I need to be sure, that's why I asked. Those tubs will wake-up and sing with a round of coated heads instead of those tone-killing heavy pinstripes and black dots. Mick, if you pick up a set for me at Dale's, (you get good deals on heads!) I'll pay you for them when we see each other.robyn - 12", 13", 16" ?????JohnJohn

For some reason the pic from behind the drums make them look like a set of Bonham size toms but 12,13 and 16 it is. I planned on dropping in at Dale's tomorrow just to shoot the breeze but now I have a real reason!! (like I need one) I'll try and give you a shout from the store when I see what's up.

Robyn, again, you have a sweet kit.

Believe it or else!

Mick, call me from Dale's! I'll give him the credit card number over the phone so you don't have to pay out of pocket. Hopefully, I'll see you during the week and you can drop off the heads then.

robyn - as soon as I get the heads, I'll ship them out to you. PM me all your mailing info again please. You put so much hard work into those drums, they should sound their best as well. The new heads will be the cherry on top of the cake! I know how much you love music and drumming, robyn. Anytime I can help, or encourage you in any way, I'm most happy to do it.

When you swap out the heads, get some 00-00 steel wool and a little bee's, or butchers wax and rub it onto the bearing edges with the 00-00 wool. Then pop the heads on. The drums will tune up great and easy.

>All the stuff you learned from hanging out here with us paid off>

Yep john, you are right. It sure has. Just look under my user name, it says i am a guru now. Lol, thats funny, i've never been a guru of anything.

Has been a joy hanging out here. I've learned so much from you guys. No better place to hang on the net then at the Vintage Drum Forum.

Reso's - The 'best choice' would be Evans clear 'control dot' reso's, but a set of G1 clears is fine and affordable.

robyn - Mick is picking up a set of coated Evans G2's for the toms tomorrow. 12", 13", 16". The G2's are just like REMO Emperors. Between the coated G2's on top and the clear G1 reso's on the bottom, the drums are going to sound great! I'll ship them out asap. Gotta get em first!

I have Emperors for batters and Ambassadors for reso's onj my Ludwig Zebra kit. I read that is what John Bohnam used on his kits. If the G2's are like the Emperors then Ambassadors would work nice. But Im sure what John suggest will sound great also, just throwing it out there.

Thank you!
