My First Craigslist Steal! Last viewed: 1 minute ago

Loading...

I finally got a deal on Craigslist! A flea market ad listed this as a chrome Acrolite. The guy had three actual blue and olive Acrolites with cases for $95 each, but because this one had pitting he listed it at $55. Clapping Happy2 I believe these are all original parts, except for the muffler, but correct me if I'm wrong.

The batter head doesn't spin freely but it only hangs up after turning it halfway around the drum, which seems odd to me. I had some trouble getting the tension rods removed as well. A few of them didn't spin straight and the drum key wouldn't clear the space between the rim and the top of the rod. Seemed a little odd. I hope it's not a sign of the drum being out of round. I haven't removed the resonant hoop yet.

Not sure about the pad but the muffler is the correct type. Knob too. The Supra has screw under and screw over types. SONOR uses the exact same muffler but the knob and label are done at the factories. They have the screw over and under too.

Nice find. Just check those tension rods to make sure that they are not bent. Pretty easy to straighten even if they are. Muffler looks correct.

Great score Zach! Take her apart. Check the hoops on a flat surface, measure the shell diameter in several places to check for out-of-round, clean the threads on the rods and inside the ferrules in the lugs and spray them with a little DW-40. With not much work that's going to be a great player. Congrats.

Too many great drums to list here!

I've measured around both rims and most of the drum seems to be 14 1/8 inches, but at one point it's 14 even. Don't know if that's within Ludwig's tolerances, but we'll see how it sounds with new heads.

I've got it stripped down, now just a matter of getting it cleaned. Lot of gunk in the lugs from old lubricant and there's a crummy looking foam behind the springs. I'll replace that with felt. However, I won't get around to cleaning this one up until I work on my brass Pearl Free Floater. My dad's always loved that drum and since I've now got two Supras I'm gonna clean up the Pearl and give it to him.

Muffler looks well.

If the shell is a little bent, try with a 360 evans on it... it helps
