fav' budget snare would be my 70's Acrolite, traded a snare stand for it.
fav' non-budget snare depends on the week, currently a Krupa COB Slingy.

My favorite budget snare is a Premier 1026 Chrome over steel 8 lugger that I got for $40. I threw some Puresounds on it and it came alive. I got a Dynasonic last week, though and I haven't been playing much else.

1968 Ludwig Supra 400. Bought on ebay for $150. I would like to compare with an acrolite some time, but this is one sweet snare. I guess if I buy an acro it will be a 6.5 for some variety. I have had 80s Pearl cheapies that were great as well. I like em all!
You know, I've been staying out of this thread because my favorite snare is my pre-serial Ludwig Super. They sell for so much money I didn't think it qualified as a "favorite cheap snare drum". However, this one does qualify because I got it for pennies on the dollar. Some guy that was local to me posted an ad in our for sale section advertising a pre-serial Hollywood kit in Sky Blue Pearl for $600.! He would only sell locally so that knocked out most of the guys here at the forum. I responded to the ad immediately and I scored a 1963 Hollywood kit in 9 out of 10 condition with the original COB Super that came with the kit for $600 and a half hour drive! 12", 12", 16", 22" + the brass Super which is also in mint condition.
Turns out my COB Super does qualify as my favorite "cheap" drum! Excited
John
