My band's new album :) Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Well ... I will be the naysayer here. It has a pretty good production considering the self-admitted limitations.

The lyrics were inane and very juvenile. The songs lacked purpose and comittment. It's as if you came up with a groove or a sound and quickly constructed something around it. All of the songs were insanely weak.

It sounds like you guys listened to a lot of The Clash and tried your best to emulate them, all the while forgetting the drive and purpose behind their music.

You have talent. You have a pretty good ear for production. But, you are missing depth and reason. Until you have that, you may as well do covers of the Bay City Rollers.

I realize this sounds like I'm slamming you. I'm not. I'm just stating truthfully and honestly my opinion of what you offered up here. I'm not one to sugarcoat. It is what it is.

Bottom line, you guys have talent. Now dig considerably deeper and touch on what it is you wish to communicate musically. Now that would be something worth hearing. I guess what I'm suggesting is that you guys should push yourselves much harder than this. Dig deeper. You have the talent. Explore the depths of why you picked up the instrument in the first place. Communicate something worthy of your talents.

Good drumming, sir! A job well-done! I wish you great success! Even though I am an old dinosaur, I can certainly appreciate your talent!

Would you care to enlighten me with an explanation as to why you thought it lacked depth, purpose and commitment? I appreciate the critique though.

Like I said, this is our first ever full length production. There is lots of room for us to grow (which we have tenfold since tracking this album over a year and a half ago). It's very much a first album.

We've added a second guitarist which has added a whole new element to the group and room to have some fun. We were a 3 piece when we did the album. Also, I've now been able to be fully involved in the song writing since I only joined the band about a month before recording. Which gave me just enough time to put a bit of my own flavor on the songs, but the songs were written with another drummer who wasn't exactly committed.

I'm surprised you thought the lyrics were juvenile though, I've always been quite fond of his lyrics and we usually get quite a lot of positive feedback on that. However, the album as a whole was intended to have that juvenile feel.

But, to each their own, I am not offended. If nobody was ever harsh on us, then we'd never really stop and take a look at what we're doing. Then again, we are usually pretty harsh on ourselves alone, haha. In my opinion, we are very much a live band and that we tend to show our true colors on stage.

The fact that you have focused on growth speaks volumes. Again, you guys have talent and some good ears.

Lyrically, ... I'm sorry, but that's the weak link in your group. You've done your research and have obviously spent time with Joe and Mick playing in the cans. Dig deep into the "why" behind their music. There was a purpose and a deep message to communicate with each cut on the album. Figure out what it is you stand for and communicate it through your songs. Punk is not pop entertainment. It's much more.

Dig into who you are and why you're playing.

That's just my take.

I see where you are coming from. You don't see legitimacy in the lyrics, like we're mis-representing ourselves?

I could see how that could happen.

Funny enough though, a lot of the lyrics do pertain to our vocalist. About some of his experiences, and others are tribute to where we come from. So I wouldn't say it's all constructed like pop entertainment, although I'm sure there is a lot of exaggeration. But there are not many stories out there that would be as captivating if they weren't exaggerated a bit.

I'm guessing joe and mick and members of the clash?

I just can't wait to get started on our next project, I'm pretty excited about the new material. More dynamic, and thinking outside the box.

yes, Joe and Mick (and Topper) are a few of the Clash. your sound rings of them. that is a complement. you really are quite a good band, and you've got such potential. I'm just an old drummer schmuck and my call really doesn't amount to spit. but I hear something very special in your band that could be so much deeper and real. i would suggest you depersonalize the lyrics and write on the things that are important outside of 'self'.

well, whatever you do, do it with conviction and purpose. for goodness sake, keep playing. you guys could have an interesting ride.

Hey Kid..........I dig what you guys are doing..........you have something unique going on......good feel, which is one the most important aspects of being in a band. Don't worry too much about the lyrics. Many of my favourite bands sing about NOTHING........it's more important on how they deliver those vocals. Remember.......those who mind don't matter......those who do...matterx-mas3
