Mounting of Zoomatic Strainer on Sound King Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Loading...

I know, lots of detail questions....here's another:

The Zoomatic strainer is mounted with two screws and a larger threaded piece with a nut on it. Mine uses about five washers, which looks kind of strange for a factory mount. I know it is connected somehow to the tension adjustment knob, but I am trying to make the drum as correct as possible.

Any photos of the inside of the shell where the strainer mounts would be really helpful.

The Slingerland book does not show this kind of detail (in case you were going to suggest) :)

Post pics of what you have .

Please don't take anything else apart without taking pictures first.

Thanks

Yes, mommy, I won't do it again!!!! Bad drummer, bad drummer!!

Sorry about all the detail questions, but I'm sort of obsessive about my collectable stuff, drums, cars, whatever...like them to be correct per factory specs (if possible).

I'll take pics soon as I have a chance.

Thanks!

Hmmmm, your's has two washers (that I can see) and two nuts...one can lock the other. I have five washers and one of the same nuts. I can't tighter the knob anymore, its pretty tight and I know one of the problems is they are easily overtightened.

I guess, I was curious if there was a "right way" they are supposed to be, or did it vary depending on the particular drum.

Thanks!

Okay, here are the pictures of both the strainer and the way the strainer mounts. Sorry, made a mistake, there are three thick washers and one "lock" nut...not too different than yours!

Also, a couple of comments/questions on the strainer itself. It works fine (whew), but I noticed when taking the picture that it is slightly slanted. Assuming there is some play in the size of the hole vs the diameter of the mounting screw.

Also, the snare chord hold down piece has decorative lines in it, but the butt piece does not. Is that not from a SK or even a Slingerland snare?

As you can see from the photo, the shell needs lots of cleaning/polishing. There are some scratches, not deep, and some slight denting here and there. Overall, its not much better than a "good" rating. I will upgrade the shell, should I find one in really nice condition but until then, I'll work on cleaning this one to see how well it comes out.

Okay, thanks for helping out!
