Mod Orange Ludwig out for a proper beating!

Loading...

Some of you may remember my post from last year about the beater Mod Orange set I picked up. http://vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=24292

Since our set-list tonight included The Doors, Skynyrd, Stones, Beatles and no song newer than 1972, I figured it was a perfect gig for the mod orange set. Great sounding drums, fun night.

That wrap is just waayy too cool for anytime after the '70s. We need to get the wayback machine working!

Great job restoring those. Did you recut the resonant side edges?

I was struck at how "goofy" mod orange looked with all the resonant hardware removed and how, all of a sudden, the color looks fantastic with all the hardware replaced. Of course I am sure your hard work had a lot to do with that as well. Great looking set!

It's funny how tastes change. The first time I saw Densmore playing his mod orange kit, I thought, 'is it possible for drum wraps to get any uglier?' Now, I look at a mod orange kit and it makes me drool on my keyboard. Go figure... :o

Too many great drums to list here!

I repaired the split edges with a two part epoxy which I also used to fill in some rash/gouges. Then I sanded them smooth. I have another vintage set with good edges which I use for comparison. the shells were brought back to life with novus.
