Ah... not quite true Mr. K.O....... he most certainly DID use BOTH Rogers "L" arms for splash and ride when he started his Slingerland endorsement. As a matter of fact, up until 1970/71, give or take. Now, agreed... he did end up with the non adjustable Slingerland "L" later... but not for at least the first few years. So, for those guys that want the original BR set up with Slingerland, these Rogers "L" arms are the order of the day! Oh, but of course!... no tilters is correct! Here's a pic from approx. 1970. It is indeed a Rogers "L" arm! I have a RARE pic in my personal collection that has never been in print, given to me by someone close to the Rich family. It is his 1st Slingerland set back in 1968... BOTH "L" arms are Rogers!Tommyp

At least he never used a Fibes cymbal arm with his Slingerlands ;)

... and THANK GOD for that! Oh what the heck... here's another one out of my collection. I don't think I have ever seen this one in print either... but there are both the Rogers "L" arms! Plenty of pics showing the later Slingerland non-adjustable too of course... but many with the Rogers as well! BEST!!!

Yes, I'd really like to see one up close before spending my money! And, TP, I've no doubt that Jim Petty won't be happy about this!

And, yes!, I've got a Swivo arm for my splash cymbal on my '68 BR kit. The only issue is that the seller told me that the arm was custom made to the proper height, but never chrome plated. You can see the discoloration of the tube in the closeup picture. Still, I like it the way it is!

That's a beautiful set!

I have a Rogers arm...buried somewhere in a pile of hardware. I really should try to locate it now that I have a Rogers set.

... and as long as we're discussing this:

Rogers .. ( and probably Slingerland too, although I didn't check ) .. offered non-adjustable "L" arms in FIVE different sizes: 7" .. 9" .. 12" .. 15" .. 18" .. I actually have them all as I have been playing Rogers for quite a while! Anyway!...

The 9" "L" arm happens to be the same height as the top of the line adjustable "L" arm we are talking about here .. WITHOUT .. the extension piece. BR used his completely retracted, no tilter, as do I for that matter, but... one could use the thinner non adjustable length 9" too, as they are near identical. ( as I have! ) Sometimes there can be like a 1/4" variance in the adjustable from time to time, probably due to manufacturing. Again, these are all used with NO TILTER. Reason I make mention is:

Are all those sizes available because of Buddy?... and especially so the 7" and the 9" .. because .. either of those two will get the ride down where you would want in mounted on top of a 24" bass drum and using a canister throne. I have actually used the 7" when playing a 22" bass drum, and that is perfect as the drum is 2" smaller than the 24" which uses the 9" arm. So!... maybe all those sizes offered had something to do with Buddy .. or .. it could be just coincidence too, but I always thought it interesting!

Thanks K.O.!

And, yes, find that Rogers arm and put it to use on your kit!

Well, I guess there is quite a bit of interest in the Maxwell repro Rogers L arm. Just checked the auction and all 6 have sold! That was pretty fast. Pretty sure that Steve was testing the waters and will offer up more. I think they're easier to find on eBay than at his website.

I've been looking for an excuse to return to Steve's Naperville store (about 90 minutes away from me). Maybe I need to go and check out one of these arms in person. Of course about the time I do that there won't be any there (either sold out or all at the NYC store).

You know Mark...

... your Slingerland Buddy Rich 80N being as early a model as it is, SHOULD have Rogers "L" arms in both positions! You being as you are, which is how I am as well! .. ( think a tad OCD if you will ) .. I say BUY! BUY! BUY! Also, and this is the actual reason I'm writing this post:

Your seller may have very well been correct with regard to the un-chromed Rogers "L" arm, well... not so much the "custom height" comment, but the fact that it is NOT chromed. Reason I mention is: My Rogers BR Celebrity's are 1965's, and both "L" arms were present when I got the drums. Well, my ride "L" arm tube is NOT CHROMED either! It's got a "brushed satin" finish to it, which I always thought odd as it was OEM Rogers... yet the splash "L" arm IS chromed! I've been using both for close to 16 years now, but it does make one wonder about these things. I will say, having three Rogers sets... I have a total of 7 of the top of the line Rogers "L" arms, and 6 of 'em are chromed. It's just that ONE! Maybe it was 'sposed to go with your Slingerland's!

Tommyp!

Thanks for all this information! Really gets me thinking about a Maxwell repro Swivo L arm. The Slingerland single-piece L arm I have is actually too short for my 22" bass drum, forcing me to lower the floor toms. It also has my 20" ride cymbal barely clear the Setomatic mount! I switched to a standard, adjustable, Slingerland L arm, but is actually too tall at the lowest setting. Bottom line is that one of these repro arms might be perfect. It would be great if K.O. could see an example up close!
