Maxwell Repro Swivo Cymbal L Arm Last viewed: 5 seconds ago

Just saw this on eBay and I'm impressed! The asking price is very fair at $90. My only quibble: Come on Steve, please use a proper black felt and black rubber sleeve. Not really sure if the wing screw is Rogers style or not. Still, I would think there are many drummers out there who would love this L arm. Item number 161959635873

Mark!

The wingnut/screw isn't even CLOSE to Rogers in look/design, but that said: Outside of the insulator and felt .. ( as you are correct! ) .. that is an amazing price for one of those. I couldn't believe it when I saw the "preview" on it by Steve. I remember when an OEM Rogers "L" arm would cost $150.00 and UP all day long! I doubt these are the same quality... but they LOOK near perfect! Fortunately, I have all OEM Rogers on my sets!

Unless Steve is having them (by them I'm assuming some source in China or Taiwan) make custom wing nuts we're probably stuck with the smaller examples that are the current standard for 1/4"-20 thread these days. Ludwig has to do the same thing on their current vintage cymbal arm. The correct size wing nut casting is still being made but they are always tapped for a larger bolt. I have pondered looking into having someone cut the smaller threads into the larger casting, which is apparently what the drum companies did back in the day, but of course this would probably entail a large minimum order and dealing with someone an ocean away (there used to be several fastener companies right near here...all closed up or merely importers now) for what is certainly a very limited market. Probably a box or two of the right wing nuts sitting in a warehouse somewhere in the world...if you could just find them.

Other than that minor detail these look pretty nice and I was pleasantly surprised by the price.

TP and KO!

Glad that you both weighed in on this. True that they are probably made in Taiwan, but still a very viable alternative to some of the pricey offerings, that may be in poor physical and cosmetic condition.

As to the wing screw and other tilter parts, Jim Petty offers nice parts for these. I've used his offerings for Rogers and Ludwig cymbal tilters and they're as close as you can get...especially the wing nut!

I noticed it too Mark. I sent a note inquiring what the plating is. It's not that clear if it's nickel or chrome. Great piece to have for gigging if you're worried someone my 5-finger the real article when you're not looking or if you are just using a gig-level kit anyway. He has a video on his webpage about it

I'll tell you what though, Jim Petty ( jp2 Creations ) ain't gonna be happy with these! Still, that said, yes... they almost have to be MIT as there is no way the price could be this low and have these made over here. The chrome is a little "off" as can be seen... but that isn't meant as a cut to the item or Steve. Agreed Mark!... GREAT way to get these and not take out a home equity loan for the REAL ones! I want to add...

... and I was saying this to Steve Maxwell about these parts, NOT just for the Rogers guys either! All you Slingerland Buddy Rich 80N set owners can also have the same "L" arms BR used with his Slingerlands... as he used the Rogers! Quite!

Those are nice. I'll have to get out my drill and buy a knobby mount and new cymbal arm now. What? Oh......wait :) My bass just has the one lonely tom arm mount. Better leave it alone. Dang!

So questions.......is that a roll pin by the bend at the base? Were the originals pinned and I'm assuming 2 pc at that part? If not what's the hole? I'm such a Rogers newb sorry!

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

For the splash. The ride was on a non adjustable Slingerland arm custom made to his exact height. No tilters either.

Ah... not quite true Mr. K.O....

... he most certainly DID use BOTH Rogers "L" arms for splash and ride when he started his Slingerland endorsement. As a matter of fact, up until 1970/71, give or take. Now, agreed... he did end up with the non adjustable Slingerland "L" later... but not for at least the first few years. So, for those guys that want the original BR set up with Slingerland, these Rogers "L" arms are the order of the day! Oh, but of course!... no tilters is correct! Here's a pic from approx. 1970. It is indeed a Rogers "L" arm! I have a RARE pic in my personal collection that has never been in print, given to me by someone close to the Rich family. It is his 1st Slingerland set back in 1968... BOTH "L" arms are Rogers!
