are theses bd's from the early part of the last century worth buying for parts or are they not the same hardware thanks guys

For the most part they are single tension till the late 30's.As for parts, some of the hardware from the late 40's on may be the same.But as far as a player...they sound great.Mahogany ply,walnut ply and some are steam bent single ply.Levon Helm used bass drums like those in the Band.You can usually pickup a Leedy,Slingerland or Ludwig fairly cheap,and some guys here have or are building Levon Helm tribute kits.
