Still no one has come forward with any info on this Nashville made line in and around 93/94. Someone offered me his 4 pc kit for 3k, yet others say how do you know what its worth when no one knows of these drums...Looks like im just going to play and enjoy these wonderful misfits!
Mapex US Maples Last viewed: 3 hours ago
It's probably safe to say that no Mapex set from that era is worth that kind of dough. They were only about 3 years old then and were still a pretty modest line.
I had a friend who had a set of these.
He sold it years ago now he is kicking his self for selling them.
It was a nice kit.
I think the shells were nice.
Mapex hardware was the only problem with them. LoLoLoLo
These drums are rarer than honest car salesmen [badump]...Seriously folks...with only 300 kits made world wide, its likely i wont run into a fellow Maples owner. You were right about the shells being nice, and i can imagine why he,s kicking himself.
I remember this series of Mapex - the first marketed here in the U.S.A. By current standards the pedals and hardware were lacking. Plastic was used on throwoffs and pedals to cut costs and to my eye looked rather suspect. I seem to remember the drums had all tube lug construction and power sized mounted toms; the latter feature currently out of fashion with contemporary players. Shells were good and they sounded good. Came with a 5-year Factory Warranty. I see them every now and then offered for around four to five hundred dollars on Craigslist. Of course, quality, sound, and value are not necessarily those factors influencing the resale dollar value of any drums. They might one day be the most expensive and sought after vintage kit!
