Thxs guys...
I've had several sets of Ludwig Timbales, & noticed that the shells are very weak, & cannot be tensioned very much before the sides begin to deform. I would classify them as part of Ludwig's school oriented instruments designed for kids. They are not professional level instruments. I'm not sure if the bottom rim could even take the strain of a bearing edge.
They do not command much $$, & one can see them regularly on ebay going for $100+- for a complete set w/ stand

Thxs for the heads up...about the snare idea..
As for $100 for 2 timpali's with std...that was my guess..
I'm trying for $20 / owner wants $50..think I'm gonna pass.
The snare idea was the only reason / however I'm not a hard hitter..
But I do like my skins tight..!
Thanks again for this..
I was gonna add some Diecast hoops for the ultimate Loud sound..
Is the shell copper or copper over brass.?
The Ludwig Timbales, whether chromed or Goldtone were steel.
ok,..good enough.!
Have a great week...us here up in Canada are having a long one..lol
I'd buy 'em for $50. The badges are worth that.
The OP mentioned 1 timbale (& $50 would be quite high IMHO). I also wouldn't pay that amount for a B/O badge.
I marched a pair of those timbales back in the '70s. They weren't very high quality. As for their value, I'd say $20 for a pair.
Good luck.
