Heh, np man. I have 2 WFL snares, my older of the 2 is a New ClassicRay McKinley 6.5 and my newer one of the 2 is just a 5.5'' Super Classic. My 5.5 sounds WAY better than the older deeper one which is due tothe bearing edges I think. Debating whether or not to modify theedges since it has never been touched, except the calf heads are goneand the original snare wires are gone. Heh, I guess it has beentouched but at least no weird holes and strainer changes.

I've been hearing the same thing about the shallower depths sounding better on a lot of WFL snares from my buddy Vintagemore.

Hey Kevins,

Glad you're enjoying the snare. Regret selling it of course...ha.

But i'm ok because i'm playing and loving my 51/2 56 or 57 WFL. It has the mark Pat. Pending on the strainer. Does that date it?

You can see from the image that it is a bit rough, but it sounds great, and as you see i use brushes a lot with this pedal steel guy.

I'll admit to the crime. Back 10 years or so ago when i bought this 4 piece kit (with the 16 floor being a white interior 60's ludwig) I decided to peel and tongue oil the whole kit. it worked out, and man it all sound good! But i didn't know what i was doing and lost the badges.

Doesn't matter in a way. I'm Never parting with this kit till i'm ashes.

I did moongel that 61/2 as well and it still was so crisp and loud that i prefered this matching one.

Again, glad it is enjoyed.

Working, gigin' a bit with a couple of acts. Always lurking here to check out the cool kits.

The forum got me thinking about Paiste Giant Beat hats, and i bought a pair of 15's and love 'em. Finally got a supra for rock gigs and it's perfect too.

Take care. Hope you're playing lots.

Ok weird, Kevins, I mean my snare might be weird, not you. heehee

I took everything apart today to measure this thing and to my total dismay

it looks to be just a 1/8'' or so over 6 inches. Does this mean WFL

thinks they made a 6.5'' snare? Also, I always thought the super tiny

thread of space between my classic style lugs looked odd, I think there

is more space there when one actually has a 6.5'' snare. Almost like

bowtie lugs wouldn't fit or something so they threw these classic

lugs on it...

Took a couple shots just now and here they are with the tape on it:

It got the weird one with 2 screw holes, getting ready to make a short camer video of the snare and some vintage ZIldjian cymbals I picked up yesterday. The 2 screw holes are for the snare wire, the P-87 strainer

has that 1 screw hole.

It has to be a 6'' but Rob Cooks book makes no mention of a 6'' like this.

Seems the forties were a confusing time for the industry.

Heck, I've got a WFL outfit built in the early forties with zephyr lugs, 1948 Damen badges all around, and zero signs of any switching of badges or lugs..... so who knows??

All seems possible ....

eric, i just measured mine and it has the silver badge and that is the same measurement i got so i guess that was a 6"? it has a very narrow tuning range to my taste anyway! I've seen all things crazy on wfl's, i also had a blue/silver duco zephyr 9x13"wfl with gold damian ave on it also!

I know what you mean VM, but I think I finally got this snare tuned up

pretty decently for me today. Here is a goobery youtube video I made

a short while ago -

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQc020XUEo4"]Dorking out for my friends on vintagedrumforum.com[/ame]

UPloading another short one I just did, but using my 'new' '83 all birch

SuperStar 6 1/5'' snare to kind of compare.

Man, it's kinda weird making these videos when it's just the drummer with

no other musicians. hee hee
