Ludwig war time snare ?

Hi Folks,

This one was sold today on Ebay Germany today for €381.00 or a bit over $500.00.

I thought it was a good idea to share it and maybe the specialist can tell what exactly we're looking at. Just curious why a drum in such a poor condition goes for such a high price ?

I was watching that auction as well, and also was surprised by the final price... I know those snares are rare, but.... Hmmmm

Was thinking about bidding but dropped out after the auction reached 100+€...

That drum is trashed!! The 4410 inside the shell means the drum was made in October of 1944. Not worth anything near $500 in my opinion.

Being that this WWII "Victory" drum was located in Germany, it must have an interesting story.

The real challenge is what to do with that exterior finnish. The rest looks restoreable to your standards.

That table or floor is jointed prfectly and finnished well,...Did you buy it ?

Ha,... thanks.

With 1 minute to go the drum was still at around 100 Euro so I was considering to have a go at it but I didn't it.

I would imagine the drum has a story behind it. At the end of 1944 and further on, Germany was pretty much destroyed and under supervision of the allied troops. Most likely that it was brought in by a US army soldier or other military personnel.

Here's the link to the auction:

I would think more than likely shipped over by Bill Ludwig himself or associates promoteing it. Bill lived over there, around that time, about a 30 min. drive from the Sonor factory, and was friends with the Links !!
