Ludwig vintage set

more info on them:

Sizes are as follows:

13 inch tom

14 inch tom

16 inch tom

18 inch tom

24 inch bass

I do not have the snare (did kits come with the snares back then?)

All mufflers are intact

Parts missing:

Bottom hoops for the 14, 16, and 18 inch toms

16 tension rods

Parts broken:

the rack tom mount is screwed up I think its striped

the muffler on the 18 inch tom rattles when the drum is played

Here are my main questions...

Should I try to find original hoops and tension rods?

How should I fix the rack tom mount?

Did I get ripped off?

Everything above plus a rack of three roto toms and a ludwig ghost pedal were given to me for $650

Thanks so much for your help!!!

your pics are so small I can't get a good look at the kit, but yes get original ludwig replacement parts, the muffler rattling in the tom is an easy fix, just hammer the rivet flat again! and that was a good price no you got a good deal! can you post larger pics of the problem drums?

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Looks like 3 ply with re ring granitone int , finish looks like it could be Mahogany cortex.I had one of those, the shells were a mix of granitone/clear interiors.Looks like blue and olive badge badge. If I am correct one all three of those the kit is probably 1972 to 1976,and more desirable than a 6 ply no re ring blue/olive badge. I think you got a real good deal, the roto tom set is worth 150.00 minimum, ghost pedal at least 50.00.You can get the missing original parts for a reasonable sum if you want,or you can get them up and running for less if you want, but you got a good enough deal on them that the money spent keeping original would be recouped if you resold them.We could tell more with bigger pics, and knowing what the interiors are and if they are all 3 ply,and if the shells are all finished the same on the inside.

I having trouble uploading bigger pictures because they are over the KB limit for attaching images. Here are the things I checked. All of the drums have the same wrap. They all have the same interior and they are 3-ply. What I am missing are the hoops and tension rods for a couple of the toms. All of the toms have at least one side complete but 2 or 3 of them are missing one hoop and some tension rods. Will acquiring these original parts raise the value significantly? I am looking to sell this drum set

It would be best to have original parts, but, in the case of your drum set, I don't think it would matter if you're looking to sell it. Other than the 24 and the 18 being desirable sizes for rock drummers, the drums are not going to make any Ludwig people go crazy.
