Ludwig Supraphonic Snare Drum

Loading...

I'm back on the forums! :)

I was just looking at this Supra snare on eBay as I would like a nice snare to go with my Ludwig Fab Four Red Sparkle kit I have atm.

These are the details from the seller:

ON OFFER IS THIS LUDWIG 1969 SUPRAPHONIC SNARE DRUM , 1969 MODEL WITH A KEYSTONE BADGE NUMBER 693887, THE INSIDE OF THE SHELL APEARS TO HAVE THE DATE STAMP MARCH 28 1969.

THIS IS A 10 LUG 14 X 5INCH DRUM .HAS THE ORIGINAL ROUND MUFFLER , HAS NEW HEADS TOP AND BOTTOM, AND WHAT APEARS TO BE A NEW SET OF AFTER MARKET SNARE WIRES . THE DRUM ALSO COMES COMPLETE WITH A P85 STRAINER WHICH WAS FITTED TO THE 1969 SUPRAS , ALTHOUGH AT SOME STAGE SOME IDIOT REPLACED THE STRAINER WITH A NO ORIGINAL ÁND LEFT A SMALL 1/8TH OF AN INCH HOLE , WHICH AT SOME POINT WAS PROFESSIONALLY METAL REPAIRED , YOU CAN HARDLY NOTICE IT HAS IT IS HIDDEN BEHIND THE P 85 STRAINER

THE RIMS LOOK EXCELLENT , ALTHOUGH THE SHELL HAS QUITE A FEW SMALL TO LIGHTISH SCRATCHES , AND THE LUGS HAVE SOME LIGHT PITTING .

THIS IS A LUDALLOY SHELL , WITH A FANTASTING CRACKING SOUND AND HEAPS OF GENUINE RESPONSE .

Just need an opinion on its quality / value. Is it worth it?

Thanks

The '69 Supra is slightly more exceptional, in that it is a "transitional" year/drum. It incorporates the keystone badge with the newer rotary tone control and round, gray felt muffler pad. Also, in some cases, the 1969 was fitted with the earlier P-83 throwoff (mine has this). It's not a big deal, but there is some uniqueness to the 1969 Supra. Of course, they all sound the same -great, that is!

While I agree, it doesn't possess particularly high value, but to someone looking to complete a 1969 kit, these are part of the "signature" of that year. Of course, for the same unique reasons, it doesn't actually fit with many other 60's drum sets!

****FYI, The throwoff arm of that P-85 is badly bent out of its proper shape.***
