I found this video comparing the two, very interesting.

Same shells, edges, & hoops, built in the same factory on the same machines by the same people. Different lugs and different wraps and somewhat lighter hardware were the only real differences. I'd be more surprised if they didn't sound quite similar.
Ya, I know, I just thought it was a kind of cool video.
I thought they both sounded right in the same ballpark as the other. It almost sound like the rack tom on the Standard had a little more sustain, but I know there can be several factors in that. Cool video!

Agreed. In fact the Standard possibly edged it generally. The rack Tom on the Classic was dead really, needed to be on a Snare stand possibly.
I didn't like the Snare I must admit.

I have also found it interesting how at one tuning range, the tom mount will choke off a tom drier than the Sahara Desert.. but then tune it up or down will suddenly fix it! This happens on my Club Date kit! The 12" rack likes to be tuned up in the higher range.. sings like crazy on the bass mount!! Anything mid to lower and just a dead thud..
Yes I used to have a Super Classic that died on medium tuning downward. Up High and it sang. Did ok on a snare stand though.
