Ludwig Sound Projector 2

Loading...

I recently acquired a big pile of Ludwig Concert Toms that turned out to be a complete Sound Projector 2 kit (per the 1981 Catalog). I finished cleaning them up over Christmas and thought I'd share a few pictures. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them... concert power toms have no interest for me, but it seemed the right thing to do to at least clean them up.

The drums are in pretty good shape with varying degrees of scratches to the maple lacquer finish. The lugs cleaned up really nicely and all the original tension rods are there, plus obviously the big old ugly double tom stands with clip mounts. There's a fair bit of rust on those stands but they cleaned up reasonably well. There was also a 6.5" Supra that is very pitted but I cleaned it up and it sounds great. I've never had one of these before, so whatever happens with the rest of the kit, I'm keeping this. All badges are B and O (pointy version).

Sizes are 10/12/13/14/16 and a 22*16 virgin bass drum with 4 of the bigger spurs. All toms apart from the 16" floor tom use mini lugs. All this fits with the details in the 1981 Catalog. The velcro is still in place that held the Sound Projectors, but they were lost long ago and I doubt I'd go to the trouble of trying to find any!

The question is now what to do with them.... like I said, they don't hold any interest for me and take up a lot of space. I guess I'll keep 'em for a while and then probably post for sale.... there's someone, somewhere who thinks these are cool!
