Ludwig Rockers Question Last viewed: 11 minutes ago

From what I understand Ludwig had some drums made overseas and were not that good. I have worked with Rockers with the b/w badges but have not with this badge. Are these the cheep ones to stay away from or would they be worth fooling with?

Jeff,

Are they close to you?

They are the MIT version of the Rockers, and yes, as a set aren't worth much. But... (can't tell by the pics for sure) they do appear to have the mini-classic lugs on the toms (but not on the BD, which seems strange), and the mounting hardware I see appears to be the "Elite" stuff... so, IMO to me they'd be worth $100 easy.

Here's why, in my case: I'm building one (and maybe 2) mini "Ringo" sets this fall. I like the mini-classic lugs for the toms on those (and small classics on the BD -- that keeps the "appearance" ratio intact). The Elite hardware is good stuff that can be used on other projects of mine as well. The shells then end up in my stock that I eventually use-up building entry-level kits with the PSA wood veneer (and I sell them for less money than you can buy an entry level set at a GC, so there is a market).

But again, to "restore" this set wouldn't leave you with one very sought-after at all...

Bill, thank you. The drums are not real close and they are "asking" 100 for them. Might get them for much less. I have been looking for a kit to re-wrap but want it to be a good quality vintage kit. If I were closer I would go get it, maybe I will call and see what the bottom dollar would be.

Thanks again!

Jeff,

I zoomed in on the photo a little. The Rockers kits with that label (badge?-sticker? -- whatever it is) typically had the type of lugs that if I remember correctly were a 3-pc set-up with a "connecter" between the lugs, giving it the look of the high-tension lugs (like on marching drums and the short-lived "Mach" series of drums Ludwig produced in the early 70s). IF these drums had this type of lug and the previous owner removed that piece, the existing lugs would be worthless then (to me anyway, based upon my other post) and greatly diminish what little value was there in this set in the first place.

I hope that made sense...

Those are the MIT Rockers, but they are NOT the small classic lugs. They are the import knock-offs of them, if you will, very similar to the later Rocker Elite series hardware. Bill is correct, there should be a chrome bar between the lugs to make them similar to the 70's Mach lugs. These lugs have no diminsions in common with the classic lugs by the way....
