With the humidity in Singapore, I'd be very concerned about the drums there. I too would suggest a mismatched set because an expensive vintage set might very well get damaged. My older brother had a very expensive Gibson guitar in Singapore and it warped so bad from the humid conditions that it was basically destroyed.
So do you think a modern kit would be a better choice? Ludwig has their new wrap-tite thing going on.
Lots of drum studios? Can you explain? I haven't heard anything about drum studios there at all.

I just did, but it appears as if most of the studios are for lessons, not a place where I could rent a spot to practice.
I mean it's your deal and I don't want to be mess'in your mix but... I would reach out to any of the many places and tell them what the deal is.. "I'm coming to Singapore for two years... I need a place to practice." Heck you might end up finding some great people to play with, you might find some good lesson or teaching opportunities. It is always good to network.
Again.. just sharing an idea.. I don't mean to butt in on your plan.
Best of luck and I envy your opportunity to live in such a foreign country for a couple years. I had a friend who got hired to do close up magic for a convention center in Singapore.. he really enjoyed it. Might have stayed if not for a fiance in the US.

I thought that heat/humidity would not significantly effect the drums. I actually posted a question about wrapped drums in hot weather/high humidity situations on a couple of other drum forums and every response was about how the drums would be fine. If I need to take a kit that isn't wrapped, I would probably lean toward the new Yamaha Club Customs. I'd much rather have vintage drums though.
The Club Date suggestion is a great one. Clubbies are portable, they sound beautiful, they have a cool vintage vibe, and--here's an advantage I hadn't thought of until I got mine--the single-lug design makes them much lighter. They'd be an ideal vintage kit for someone who needs to have a kit on the move.
