Can anyone help me pinpoint this model? Pioneer because of the 6-lugs? I looked it up on the ludwig snare listing in the guide, but the 6-lug is shown w/ chrome not nickel.

Help! :) I have a modern strainer on it, as the original was not functional (and also wasn't a p-338)

No engraving on the shell or hoops, no badge, no identification aside from the hardware/shell.

looks like a pioneer to me. My 2 main drums are 6.5 x 15 and 5 x 15 pioneers. AMAZING drums....

the nickel models are way more plentiful than the chrome are!! the top rim look newer as if swapped out sometime!!

Sweet! Yes I love this drum, my first brass snare. It's a whole different world of snare sound, for sure. Oh and the size is 5"x14"; I failed to mention that.

I've thought about swapping out for some triple flanged hoops for tunability/playability though.

The gap for snare string is so small that the snares don't seem to move freely when disengaging the strainer.

Yeah i could tell what size it is!, test the rims with a magnet, these should be steel, but may have one of each now, also the bottom rim at the snare flange take the rims and pull them at each end with your hands to adjust the rim for the string clearance, if you understand what I'm trying to convey, if you use triple flange use brass! oh and get those freakn snare wires off this shell they will wear a groove in the brass,, REALLY!! use string only!!

Go single flange! Straight hoops eat clips, so the single flange maintains the tone and look, but the flange supports the clip, relieving some of the strain on it on the part curving over the top of the hoop...

I agree about the hoops. That is where the logo would have been.

What type of strainer/holes did it have? The position of the vent hole looks like what the catalogues were starting to show in 1933 and later, and they reintroduced the Universal with 6 lugs and a P338 strainer in that year too. Per the catalogues the Pioneer was again 8 lugs by 1932. Per Catalogues the Pioneer had been 8 lugs when it was first introduced in 1928, and then in 29 & 30 they were depicted with 6 lugs don’t know about 31 yet (no catalogue) the vent hole was on the butt side in the catalogues I’ve seen until 1932.

I’m thinking 33 or so Universal model if it had a P338 strainer and the 1 piece/1 seam shell.

Any certain type of string to use?

I'll have to measure/take photos of the extra holes.

The other holes had wider spacing which should be consistent w/ P-338.
