Ludwig mid-70's kit questions

Loading...

Hi All,

New member and not even a drummer.  But I have a kit that I'm hoping to find a good home for and just wanted to make sure the asking price is reasonable.  I don't really need the money so I might even give it away to the local kids rock school unless maybe it has some hidden value I'm not aware of.

This set was my brothers but been in my possesion for the last 25 or so years so our drummer doesn't have to lug his kit around for rehearsals at my house.

Best guess is that my brother was given it ~1974 give or take.  I think it was new at the time but can't say for sure.  Knowing my father (University music professor, band director, and drums were his secondary instrument), it would have been a solid utilitarian kit but not over the top.

Blue/olive badges - bass drum serial #1193537, snare serial #1175391,  No markings on the cymbols (at least not anymore).

Thanks for any help or info you can give.

Your serial numbers 117xxxx and 119xxxx would be expected for ~'74.

Those are pretty nice drums, in need of a bit of spit and polish.

Check the cymbals carefully.  There should be some engraving a few inches from the edges.  If you find them, take some clear photos.  The value of the cymbals could significantly alter the overall value of the set.

Either way, you're not talking about a fantastically expensive set.  They would be an excellent donation to a school or young drummer in need, or sell them if that what you want to do.  Depending on cymbal value, you could get $800 to $1600 I would think.  Others may disagree...
