Ludwig Marching Snare Last viewed: 7 hours ago

I picked up this Ludwig marching snare today. I'm not sure what I'll do with it, probably just restore it as close to original as I can. After a brief tuning, it sounds pretty cool. It would actually make a nice snare for a larger sized kit.

Marching snares sound good in 4 piece kits, as well.

Funny Post Yes, I'm sure they do. I meant larger sizes kits as in kits that include larger sized drums.

I finally got to this snare today. I did some work on the shell as well as the usual detailing of the hardware. The heads on this may be original, but they are definitely old. They sound ok, but it could really benefit from some new heads. Overall I'm very happy with it. The chrome is great, with just a little rust on the hoops. The shell is decent, with some rough spots that at least look better now than when I got it. I'd much rather have this original beat up finish than a prefect looking refinish anyway.

The date stamp on the inside label I'm thinking puts it at July 17, 1976 (it reads 60717, but I'm not sure if I'm interpreting it correctly). That matches up with the serial number of 920614 to put it at 1976. This drum will be in the "for sale" section shortly.

I have a 15x10 that I play on my kit from time to time.

What a fat fat tone!

Also reaaally loud even when played softly.

Yeah, these sound pretty cool. This one doesn't seem louder than other snares to me. Maybe the 15" instead of 14" makes a big difference.
